The justice system of the United States found Google guilty
U.S. justice found Google guilty of monopoly in the digital advertising market
Federal Media is now preparing for the new post-Google advertising ecosystem.
The recent court ruling -celebrated in mid-April of this year- which declares Google guilty of maintaining an illegal monopoly in the U.S. digital advertising market represents a historic turning point for the entire industry. At Medios Federales, we have long been anticipating this change and are ready to accompany media outlets and advertisers in the transition toward a fairer, more transparent, and competitive ecosystem.
Google was found guilty of engaging in illegal monopolistic practices in the digital advertising market. This was ruled by federal judge Leonie Brinkema, who heads the district court in Alexandria, Virginia (United States). The case had been brought in 2023 by the U.S. Department of Justice along with several states.
The ruling establishes that Google engaged in abuse of dominant position in two of the three markets analyzed, reinforcing the allegations about its anticompetitive conduct within the digital ecosystem. This is not the first time the company has faced similar charges: it had already been found liable for an illegal monopoly in the online search market.
A new scenario for media
The ruling handed down by U.S. justice requires Google to divest key parts of its advertising business. This opens a new stage in which the rules of the game will change: market deconcentration is expected, greater diversity of platforms, and a recovery of the value that media outlets generate with their audiences.
For years, media outlets have been trapped in a closed system in which Google controlled both inventory and demand, as well as intermediation. This architecture distorted the true value of advertising spaces, limited competition, and weakened media as economic players.
What does this change mean for us?
At Medios Federales, we believe this ruling is not only good news, but a historic opportunity to rebuild the value chain of digital advertising on fairer foundations.
Since our launch, we set out to rebalance the scales in favor of media outlets, helping them to:
Regain control over their audiences and advertising spaces.
Access transparent, flexible, and local technology.
Maximize their revenue without abusive intermediaries.
Integrate into advertising schemes that respect editorial identity.
Preparation and technology at the service of media outlets
In recent years we developed an infrastructure designed for this new stage:
Strategic alliances with ad exchanges, data providers, and independent demand platforms.
Development of in-house solutions to ensure visibility, traceability, and control of advertising campaigns.
Transparency protocols in the advertising value chain, with open and auditable metrics.
Training for local and regional media to strengthen their position in the digital ecosystem.
An invitation to all media outlets
The change has already begun. And at Medios Federales, we want no media outlet to be left out. This is the time to regain prominence, to build new rules, and to choose which technology and which values we want to play with.
We commit to being a reliable, strategic partner with a local vision to accompany this transformation.
If you are part of a media outlet, a sales network, or an agency, we invite you to talk. The transition is already underway, and we want to go through it together.
